Held every four years since 2000 in Brasilia, the "Marcha das Magaridas" is defined as a broad and strategic action of women in the countryside, forests and water, with the aim of gaining visibility, social recognition, political and full citizenship. They fight against all forms of exploitation, domination, violence and for the equality, autonomy and freedom of women. The general coordinator of the March of Margaridas 2019, María José Morais Costa, points out that thousands of women are involved in the construction of this event. Margarida Maria Alves is the inspiring force of the march. Rural worker from the northeast, managed to break the macho pattern and held, for 12 years, the presidency of the Rural Workers Union of Alagoa Grande, state of Paraíba (northeast). He also wanted women to study and founded the Center for Education and Culture of Rural Workers. At 40, on August 12, 1983, she was murdered at the door of her house.
